What higher commendation than a major titleholder crediting his first World Golf Championships victory to the performance gains from the new driver he was gaming? Not only was Justin Thomas full of praise for his Titleist driver but a few weeks prior he had hit a career-record drive of 422-yards with the club.
The Massachusetts-based brand credit the achievements of their new range of metal woods to a two-year research project which resulted in the TS1, TS2 and TS3 (Titleist Speed), each with their own characteristics to match the game type of every player out there.
The club credited by Thomas was the Titleist TS3 driver which is the speediest stick in the range. The TS3 is fully adjustable allowing you to dial in your settings via Titleist’s SureFit CG weight cartridge to reflect your shot shape.
The TS3 has a classic pear-shaped head and the titanium crown offers a satisfying metallic ping. The TS3 is the club in the range best-suited to higher speed players. Offering a penetrating flight and immediate speed, the Titleist TS3 will add instant ball speed and longer yardage to your game.
The Titleist TS2 driver is a little more forgiving than its bolder cousin. The TS2 features a more modern 460cc head shape and like the other drivers in the range, it has a Speed Chassis which reduces drag by 20% and a SureFit Hosel which offers 16 different fitting options.
A fixed Centre of Gravity at the rear of the clubhead has enabled Titleist to create a stable platform to enable sweeter hits from swings with a margin of error than the TS3. The TS2 is an all-rounder and would not be out of place in the bag of a golfer at any level of the game.
The brand suggests that the Titleist TS1 driver offers “maximum launch and distance for moderate swing speeds”. The TS1 is 45 grams lighter than the TS2 and was launched after the previous two models so that all golf styles are accommodated within the range. The TS1 was designed for those with a swing speed of below 85mph.
With a mid-spin design, the TS1 offers consistent driving and features Titleist’s SureFit Hosel like its brethren. The driver has an efficient clean design as the others in the range and offers a satisfying thwack off the tee. One to pick for the average club golfer this one.
