Callaway Razr Fit Driver Review By: Jamie
Handicap: Pro

I really loved the look of this Callaway driver it had a really classic pear shaped look and a very nice finish head with no markings which I prefer. Its fitted with my favourite grip the multi compound and I think a quality grip like this instantly makes the driver more appealing to hit. Unlike a lot of drivers I have tried you can really feel the weight in the head and although its not heavy it just feels like you can control the head whilst swinging.

I hit a few shots and straight away could tell it had that really solid feel, a lot of 460cc drivers can feel like they are very tinny and hollow but this felt like it was made from a solid block. It didnt seem to matter too much where on the face I struck it but it still created a similar flight and sound to a good strike.

The ball flight was the most impressive thing about the Callaway Razr Fit driver, it seemed to get airbourne very easy launching the ball up in the air quickly but the best thing is the penetrating flight that it quickly adopted after reaching its full height. The ball just seemed to want to keep travelling forward, it was a ball flight I am not used to seeing it launches high quickly then flies on a level and just looks like it wants to keep going and going!

This Callaway driver has a tour driver kind of look but is much easier to use, its a great combination of looks and performance and I think any reasonably hard hitter of the ball will achieve great distance.

The adjustment also makes a significant difference to the ball flight and I found it very easy to adjust to get the right ball flight for me. Could be tempted at times to set it open to eliminate my hook that sometime creeps in and on this setting felt like I could really force it without worrying about losing it left. I think a lot of golfers could easy find a setting that would help cut out their bad shots more often.

I have used Callaway drivers for some time now and this is a must have for me it clearly beats my old driver on distance and I just loved the ball flight it gives me.

The Callaway Razr Fit driver is for me the best driver in the market this year with its traditional looking head and for me the club head sits slightly open which installs a confidence in me to hit this driver well, the black head of the Razr Fit gives this driver a good looking finish.

Callaway Razr Fit Driver Review By: Nick

The Callaway Razr Fit is a very solid and powerful driver with its low and penetrating flight this driver just seems to go, the Aldila shaft that Callaway have put in this year as standard performs very well, the Razr Fit is a very well weighted driver and with its adjustable weights makes this driver very competitive in the market.

Not Only does this driver perform well and come off very powerful it also has a nice solid sound off the clubface which other drivers that Callaway and other brands have made in the past have not had.

I believe that this driver would be aimed more towards the lower handicapped golfer that is looking for a solid and powerful ball flight with a traditional head shape and club workability to draw and fade the ball.

Fantastic driver! Really good looking head which seems to be the perfect size and it's fully adjustable too! Feels really nice off the face and seems fly with mid to high ball flight which is perfect when looking for some extra yardage off the tee. It is also incredibly easy to shape, especially when you play around with the adjustability. It is one of the most inviting drivers to hit at address and looks exactly as a driver should do.

The Aldila RIP'D shaft seems to have a great compromise between being light enough to get good distance off the tee and being stiff enough to control and possess lots of feel. The Red/Black colour scheme really catches the eye and makes this driver looks as good as it plays.

>Callaway Razr X Black Driver

Callaway Razr X Black Driver Review By: Robbie
Handicap: 3

I was really looking forward to testing the Razr X Black Driver as I used one of its predecessors and I have to say Callaway have made a monumental improvement to this driver. Where the old model I felt lacked some feel the Razr X Black just feels fantastic on every shot making it easy to hit high, low, draw or a fade!

The Razr X Black also looks awesome. Its black finish and stealth graphics make this driver stand out and makes you ooze confidence at address. Although I felt the shaft was slightly weak this may just be a personal opinion as I tend to hit the ball quite high.

Callaway Razr X Black Driver Review By: Nick
Handicap: Pro

The Callaway Razr X Black Driver for me is a easy as it gets, this driver has a large good looking black head, with its wide face this driver just installs confidence in ease of use, This driver for me sits ever so slightly closed and is aimed at the golfer that wants to draw the ball or try and neutralize a fade. The Razr X Black driver still comes off the face very solid but for me comes off a bit high, this is due to the clubs low centre of gravity which helps get the ball in the air and stay up there. This Razr X Black Driver as well as coming off well has a good sound as the ball comes off the club face drivers in the past for me have not sounded the best which I find almost puts me off a driver.

The Motore F8 shaft that Callaway have put in this driver in 2012 as standard felt a little light for me which gave the club plenty of kick at the bottom also adding to the ease of use, it is a 60 gram shaft which is in lighter end of the driver shaft weights but in testing this shaft and this head makes the club perform at its best.

Callaway have even stepped up there club quality by putting the very popular in 2011 red Callaway crested golf pride multi compound grip which helps add to the quality and feel of the Callaway Razr X Black Driver.

This Driver for me would be aimed at the Mid to High Handicapper who wants to get the ball in the air and is easy to use, but if a lower handicap golfer is struggling with there driver and wants something easy to use then I would not hesitate in recommending this driver to them.

Callaway Razr X Black Driver Review By: Keith
Handicap: 7

Callaway drivers are renowned for their ease of use and this is no exception, its incredibly forgiving. It pops the ball up in the air very easily and it created the perfect trajectory for me even with a poor strike. Normally with a miss hit I get a very flat uninteresting ball flight but the Callaway Razr X Black creates a rainbow like ball flight that seems to carry a lot further.

I have in the past gone for more custom made exotic shafts but there really is no need with the stock shaft Callaway have used on this driver, I felt I could lash at the ball without worrying about the shaft losing control. I also really liked the look of this driver it sits very nicely behind the ball which is really highlighted nicely against the dark finish of the face. The distance I got off the Razr X Black driver was very impressive and the great thing is I didnt really feel that I had nailed one so the potential for a career best drive is still in there.

I like the grip that Callaway have fitted on this driver which is important to me as a good grip makes me feel I have better control of the club and the styling of the head and shaft make this driver look awesome.

I can see this driver suiting a wide range of golfers simply because its so easy to use, the more lofted versions of this driver have more draw bias so it definitely covers all golfing abilities.

>Callaway Razr Hawk Tour Driver

Callaway Razr Hawk Tour Driver Review By: Lawrence
Handicap: 5

I tried the Callaway Razr Hawk Driver with a 9.5 Degree loft and a Stiff shaft. The Tour head on the Callaway Razr Hawk Tour Driver is neutral and it sits really square behind the ball. The head produces a very solid feel upon impact and there is no high pitched noise. The most impressive aspect of the Razr Hawk Driver is the strong ball flight and the lack of backspin means the ball travels longer rather than higher. It would have to be the best Callaway Driver I have ever used for Drives into the wind.

All in all the Callaway Razr Hawk Tour Driver is a very impressive club which comes with the excellent Aldila RIP shaft. Strongly recommended for any keen golfer.

At first glance I didn’t like to look of this Callaway driver at  address as it has no alignment mark on the crown. However once I hit it I didn’t really mind as it feels soft of the face and extremely easy to shape combined with its strong shaft.

Compared with the normal Callaway non-tour version it was fantastic as I personally found the shaft too weak and the face didn’t have as much feel to it. I would definitely consider changing from my current driver!!

Callaway Razr Hawk Tour Driver Review By: Nick

The Callaway Razr Hawk Driver is a very good and strong looking driver, sits very neutral and is very appealing to hit, it comes off very solid and with a very powerful consistent flight, I would recommend the tour version of this driver for a low to mid handicapper who wants to get his ball flight down and reduce spin, my personal favourite Callaway driver on test.

Callaway Razr Hawk Tour Driver Review By: Keith
Handicap: 7

I have always been a fan of Callaway drivers and my last driver was the Callaway FTiZ driver which I got on well with. I was concerned that the Callaway Razr Hawk Tour driver was going to be hard to use and at address it looked like it was going to flight the ball low.

A few hits later and this driver found its way into my golf bag for good, the ball flight was ‘rainbow’ like which Callaway say is the answer to more distance. I had no trouble launching the ball in the air and it was without doubt noticeably longer than my old driver, probably a good 20 yards or so.

My old Callaway driver was fitted with an Aldila NV shaft as the standard offering at the time felt too whippy, with this Razr X tour shaft the standard offering is more than up to the job. It feels firmer and heavier than a normal shaft and that meant however hard I tried to swing at it I did not lose control. For me there was no need to even consider trying a more exotic shaft.

This is a great choice for anyone with a quick or powerful swing and doesn’t need help to draw the ball or get it airbourne. If you hit it hard enough to launch the ball up in the air quickly it will definitely give you more distance.

Callaway Razr Hawk Tour Driver Review By: Jamie
Handicap: Pro

A very strong looking Callaway driver which for me produced a much stronger ball flight than the other brands I tested. It must be a low spin driver as my drives were seemingly untroubled by the wind which is a great attribute.

I did find it very accurate but had trouble when I tried to shape a few shots, hard to worry too much about that as I definitely would not want to compromise on how many fairways I hit with this driver.

Callaway Razr Hawk Tour Driver Review By: Lennon
Handicap: 15

I am not sure I am the type of golfer Callaway were aiming at with this driver. I found the shaft a bit too stiff and the ball flight quite flat. When I did catch hold of it with a good strike the ball went an impressive distance - lots of run.

This club is clearly aimed for the better players and the pros so unfortunately is not for me.

Callaway Razr Hawk Driver Review By: Keith

First of all I tried the draw version of this Callaway driver and it quickly became apparent that I do not need help in drawing the ball, did create a nice hook for doglegs though!

Moved on to the Razr Hawk neutral driver and this was much better, felt like it was no effort at all to get the ball launched and travelling forward nicely. Impressed with the distance created and it seemed to go better with a smoother swing, I think the Tour version is maybe better for me as I tend to get a bit quick and my bad shot is a hook, the tour helps to prevent that a bit more than this version.

What was particularly impressive was a poor strike seemed to travel the same distance so if you are looking for a forgiving Callaway driver this is definately a good bet.

Callaway Razr Hawk Driver Review By: Robbie
Handicap: 3

I felt the Callaway Razr Hawk gave the best compromise between feel and forgiveness. You can really feel every shot come off the face and it very easy to shape. Not only do you get great feel, you also get great distance out of the drives you don’t quite catch out of the middle and those where you miss-time slightly. I also love the fantastic noise this driver makes when hit square out of the middle it! It makes an even better noise than previous Callaway models such as the FT-9.

Callaway Razr Hawk Driver Review By: Jamie
Handicap: Pro

The Callaway Razr Hawk driver is a very good looking traditional looking head, this driver for me sits every so slightly shut which put me off a little bit at the beginning but as soon as you start hitting this Razr Hawk driver you can see that it is a very solid driver, with its low and penetrating flight and its solid sounding noise this driver shot up in my estimation.

This Driver has quite a deep club face and because of the technology Callaway have used in their forged composite head materials it has allowed them to distribute the weight and make this driver forgiving whilst still creating a good looking head.

The 60 Gram Aldila RIP shaft in the Razr Hawk gives this driver a very solid base and makes it feel very well weighted for a standard shaft this went very well, I also felt that I could hit this driver quite hard and the club still felt very stable, this driver however for me did fly quite a long way from right to left as it sits slightly closed. I believe that this driver is aimed at the low to mid handicap golfer that wants some helps drawing the ball but with a good looking traditional looking solid head.

Callaway Drivers - A Brief History
>Callaway Drivers Through The Years

Callaway drivers in history

Its hard to imagine that a company that started out by making hickory shafted golf clubs as recently as the 1980s would now be at the cutting edge of driver technology, striving more than any other brand to research and develop ways of making the game of golf easier.

In 1989 Callaway introduced the S2H2 driver, it was a standard sized metal headed driver but with a ground breaking sole design which would pave the way forward. This early Callaway driver had a traditional look to it in keeping with the persimmon drivers of the day.

By the end of 1990 Callaway's S2H2 driver was the most used on the PGA Seniors Tour, quite an achievement at this early stage. Sales of Callaway drivers were on the up and up in America and the company was started to look at the UK market.

Callaway's next step was to introduce the Big Bertha driver which was the first wide body steel headed driver and from this sales began to go through the roof and it was not long before it produced a win on the main tour in the hands of Mark Brooks. This Callaway driver was a massive leap forward in ease of use and many modern drivers owe a lot to this in their design. It featured a very curved sole which was reminiscent to some of the old ginty style woods.

A few years later the Great Big Bertha came out, it was Callaway's first venture into this new material for golf and the driver created a real buzz. The head size was 250cc and later on the Biggest Big Bertha was added to the range. This showed how forward thinking the company were because at 290cc it took a lot of people a long time to get used to a driver that big. Since then driver head sizes have got larger and larger until they reached the 460cc limit  which is so common in all brands today.

The Callaway ERC driver set new levels in distance thanks to its revolutionary trampoline face that would later fall foul of the rules set by the governing bodies in golf. It still managed a few years of trading with this and because it was one of the longest drivers around it sold in big numbers.

The Hawk eye drivers came out and the focus appeared to shift to accuracy and forgiveness although they were of course good for distance as well. These paved the way for the more recent Razr Hawk driver where advances in technology plays a massive part in their design.

Callaway continue to regularly introduce new drivers to its range each one appears to surpass the last in terms of distance and forgiveness. They are one of the biggest spenders in research and development and that has helped them make some outstanding golf clubs that have often set the pace.
