Callaway Razr X HL Hybrid Review By: Nick
Handicap: Pro

The Callaway Razr HL Hybrid is a very good and traditional looking rescue head, with its neutral look at setup and with a little bit of offset this hybrid for me is an appealing looking club to hit, it has a slightly large head than last years model making it slightly easier to use as they have been able to lower the centre of gravity and increase the face area and making it more forgiving.

The Razr HL Hybrid comes off quick off the club face and launches the ball high in the air whilst creating minimum spin this hybrid has a very solid feel off the face and feels very well weighted.

Callaway have put there own mid torque mid to low kick 70 gram shaft in this years hybrid which is designed to help kick at impact and get the ball up in the air, this hybrid shaft like all the shafts in Callaway's easy to hit models this year throughout the range are at the lower end of the shaft weighting scale because Callaway have found that this is how the club performs at its best.

I believe that the Callaway Razr HL Hybrid is designed and aimed at the mid to high handicapper that wants a good looking hybrid head but is easy to use and creates a higher ball flight.

This is the easiest club I have ever hit. You can swing almost as poorly as you like and you will get the ball high in the air and under control. Its shorter shaft really helps you to keep control and it gives you feel of hitting a short iron when hitting the equivalent of a long iron!

However I would say that the shaft was very weak and perhaps aimed at a higher handicapped player as the ball was actually if anything going to high. A must have for the player who struggles with their longer irons. If you are looking for a club to launch the ball high and help you from your most hated lies this is definitely worth a try as it makes hard shots easy again.

It looks easy, feels great and it works!

This Callaway Hybrid gets the ball out of some horrible lies, I tested it from all sorts of conditions and it just makes playing out of the rough a doddle. It gets the ball up and out quickly and the best thing is it does not require a good strike or even a good swing to do the job. I can see it being a real game changer for people who struggle with fairway woods or long irons because it is just so easy to hit.

I hit some balls off the tee and whilst it goes quite high it still goes the distance and its a great weapon to have in your bag on tight holes where you have to keep it straight.

I think a lot of stronger players will find this utility club will go to high for them but its going to help a lot of average to high handicaps who will be bowled over with its ease of use and forgiveness.

Callaway still have the standard Razr X hybrid in the range and there is also a tour model available so they have a hybrid to suit everyone.
